Qibla finder: find the Qibla with your phone compass

The Qibla is the direction of the Kaaba in Makkah. Tap the button below: this page uses your location to work out the Qibla as an angle from North and, on a phone, turns into a live Qibla compass. It's free, works in your browser without an app, and your location never leaves your device.

Your location stays in this browser and is never sent to us.

How to find the Qibla with your phone

  1. Tap Find the Qibla and allow location. On iPhone, also allow motion and orientation access.
  2. Hold your phone flat, away from metal, magnets and electronics.
  3. Turn slowly until the arrow points straight up and the screen says you are facing the Qibla.
  4. On a computer, read the angle: face North with a normal compass, then turn clockwise by that many degrees.

Tips for an accurate direction

  • Move your phone in a figure-of-eight a few times if the arrow is unstable.
  • Magnetic phone cases, cars, steel tables and speakers can turn the compass. Step away or take the case off.
  • In a mosque or a place you know, compare the arrow with the mihrab to check your phone's compass.
  • In a new city, find the Qibla again: the angle changes with your location.

Frequently asked questions

How does the online Qibla finder work?

It takes your location from the browser and calculates the shortest path on the globe (the great circle) to the Kaaba in Makkah. The result is the Qibla as an angle from North. On a phone, the page also reads the compass so the arrow turns with you.

Is the Qibla direction accurate?

The angle is calculated exactly from your location. The live arrow depends on your phone's compass, which metal and magnets can disturb, so calibrate it with a figure-of-eight and check it against a mihrab when you can.

Why doesn't the arrow move on my iPhone?

Safari asks for permission to use motion and orientation. Tap Find the Qibla and choose Allow. If you said no before, close the tab, open this page again and tap the button once more.

Can I find the Qibla on a computer?

Yes. Computers have no compass, so the page shows the Qibla as an angle from North. Face North with a normal compass and turn clockwise by that angle, or use the table of cities.

Is my location saved or shared?

No. The calculation happens in your browser. Your location is not sent to Dzikir App or stored anywhere.

Is it free, and do I need an app?

It's free, with no ads and no sign-up, and works in any modern browser. Install Dzikir App if you also want prayer times, reminders and the Qibla compass in an app.
